We are celebrating dads this coming weekend. My husband Rick is a stellar father and the perfect dad for boys. My dad was also a fabulous father; I mean, look how I turned out (am I right or am I right?). If you are celebrating the dads of your world this coming Sunday, make sure to feed them well. And, of course, think barbecue. Not only is it the perfect time of year for que-ing it up, but dads are big fans of cooking with fire.
First, you may want to decorate your party area. How about a cute banner made to look like neckties. Speaking of neckties, here is how to fold napkins to look like ties. If you are going to include flowers at the tables, make sure they are manly.
Ribs, Pork, Ribs, Brisket and Ribs are among meat-eater favorites for barbecue. With recipes like Sweet Cola-Ribs, Memphis-Style Hickory-Smoked Beef, Oklahoma Joe’s Smoked Brisket Flat, you’ll want to make sure and check out these saucy recipes from Food Network.
No barbecue is complete without sides. For this I am going to suggest you head on over to Country Living where they feature 50 Easy and Delicious BBQ Sides like Deviled Egg Potato Salad (two of Dad’s favorites in one!), Mojito Watermelon and Fresh Corn on the Cob with Herb Butter.
Beverages to include could be beers with interesting ingredients, classic cocktails or how about some Dad’s Old Fashioned Root Beer.
Do not forget dessert! Check out these super-adorable cupcakes made to look like barbecue grills – also check out these. Other oh-so-yummy desserts to consider are Ultimate Malted Brownie Sundaes, Chocolate-Coconut Bars, Chocolate Banana and Graham Cracker Icebox Cake or one of these amazing cakes!
If you need a playlist for the dad, DJ these perfect dad day ditties. Make a fun quick video using a simply tool like Animoto; you only need pick a theme, upload pictures and/or video and choose your music. For some fun last minute ideas, check out this page.
Also, remember that sometimes it’s the little things that make the day special. Does dear ole dad have a favorite dessert or drink you should make sure to include? How about giving dad complete control of the remote for the week? Is there a consistent dad-duty chore that someone else could take on; clearing the driveway of debris, taking out the trash or doing the dishes?
Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing pops out there!
